Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th century The rectangular case with a domed roof and a loop handle of confronted dragons, decorated on the sides and back with an etched design of a rain dragon chasing a sacred jewel in swirling clouds, the hinged doors decorated with floral medallions in colored enamels opening to reveal a seated wood figure of Buddha dressed in monk's robes decorated with scrolling lotus in gold lacquer, the figure seated on a lotus riser, the interior of the case gilt and finished with a canopy of rolling clouds 17 1/2in (44.5cm) high, the cabinet, 8 3/4in (22.2cm) high, figure only
