A large Chinese gilt bronze statue of Guanyin dating from the Ming dynasty with an old, hardwood stand. Guanyin is seated in dhyanasana with her hands in dhyana mudra. She wears earrings, necklaces, and a hooded robe with borders incised with lotus tracery. Beneath her red-painted hood, Guanyin wears a crown decorated with one figure of Buddha. There are multiple areas of repair to the front of the statue as well as small losses to the back and shoulder. Provenance: From Dr. Lobelson in San Diego, California. Dr. Lobelson is a retired physician and has been collecting for over 50 years. These items were acquired over 30 years ago. Reference: A similar large gilt-lacquered bronze Guanyin was sold at Christie's New York on September 18, 2014, as lot 1028.
