Smooth stone elaborately carved into soaring phoenix scholars stone. Beautifully carved boulder natural looking boulder with many voids throughout the surface. The scholars stone represented a small-scale version of the cosmos on which the scholar could contemplate within the borders of his studio or garden. Cloisonne is enameled gilt bronze on which the colors of the design are separated by thin metallic strings. The cells are filled with crushed enamel after which the object is heated until the enamels liquify into the cells. The whole piece is then sanded and polished into a uniform surface. The Light glimmers off the exterior giving a certain alluring quality to this one o kind piece.Mark on under-base, a four script -KaiShu- characters enclosed within square frame border; Made in The Years of Qianlong Reign Period.
