刘文生，1956年生于天津。1976年任天津工艺美术学校中国画教师。1986年天津美术学院中国画研究生毕业，获硕士学位并留校任教。1990年赴日本留学，1994年日本筑波大学日本画专业大学院毕业，再次获硕士学位。在日本筑波、东京、大阪、仙台、福岛、琦玉、九州、横浜等地多次举办了个人画展。2004年归国。2005年入选中国中青年艺术家精品展。2009年作品《紫藤》获天津美展银奖，并入选第十一届全国美展。现为中国美术家协会会员，天津美术学院中国画系教授，系副主任。
