A large jade Liu Hai carving, Ming Dynasty (17th Century). Liu Hai carved standing with one arm at his belly gripping the handle of a broom or fan, the other arm held close to the right shoulder with a three legged frog held to one ear, a double gourd (hulu) is depicted at his back, his hair is neatly incised and facial features and evocative, Liu Hai wears a robe with his belly and chest exposed but tied at the waist, folds of the robe carved as angled flowing lines, carved in a white stone with heavy russet mottling throughout.
