Bronze fire-gilt on silver base with cold gilt facesTibet, 18th centuryDimensions: Height 31,5 cm by 20,5 cmWeight: 2734 gramsTranslated as "The Wheel of Bliss", Chakrasamvara is one of the main Tantric Buddhist deities in Tibet. Here standing in wide stance with his left leg bent, the right leg stretched in alidhasana, on two prostrate bodies on a lotus base with beaded rims. He is shown in yab-yum position with his consort Vajravarahi, embracing her with two of his twelve arms, showing the vajramudra and holding the dorje and ghanta. The other arms are fanning out to the side holding various ritual implements. His lower body is adorned with a net of skulls and severed heads weaved together, jewellery and a skull tiara. The expression is fierce with angry eyes and teeth showing. The consort is wrapping her legs around his waist. She is holding a curved knife in her right hand and a skull cup in her left. Together, they signify the perfect union of wisdom and compassion.
