BronzeSino-Tibetan, 17th to 18th centuryDimensions: Height 38 cmWeight: 4322 gramsThe thousand-armed and formerly eleven-headed Bodhisattva of Compassion is standing on a plinth in long garments with beaded chains and draped bands. Eight arms are spread forming different mudras with the hands and a billowing scarf is intertwined in them. The many other arms are spanned out from the back creating a wing-like circle around the deity. Three heads are smiling gently with downcast, small eyes. Elongated earlobes frame the face. Only three heads are remaining, usually three lines of three heads followed by two single heads in a column. The back of the sculpture shows the same detail as the front. This piece is worked with fine detail and is outstanding in its style.
