Continental, late 19th/early 20th century. Pair of standing lion marble sculptures on plinths. Apparently unmarked. Note: These lions were part of the JJ Haverty Collection donated to the High Museum in 1949 which established the foundationfor the museum's American art collection. The lions sat at the entrance of the Joseph High house which was the original building of the museum. After being deaccessed by director Gudmund Vigtel , they guarded the house of a collector in TuxedoPark until being offered at auction in these rooms. Approx. h. 36.5", w. 19", d. 52.25" (each)
