1070-664 BC. Egyptian, Third Intermediate Period. Miniature wood and gesso mummy figurine. This delicate figurine comprises a carved wooden centre coated in gesso and then painted in the form of a mummy complete with highly detailed facial features including large almond shaped eyes, a delicate nose and red lips. This figure also sports a large black ceremonial wig and red pectoral net. Though the purpose of these miniature figurines is unknown it is likely that they served either as models for coffin makers or perhaps as some sort of funerary offering. Excellent condition.Size: L:With Stand: 280mm / W:60mm ; 330g; Provenance: property of a Central London Gallery; previously acquired by a British private collector, formerly in a private East Coast Dere collection, New Jersey, USA collection.
