1100-1300 AD. Medieval European. Iron short sword, with a bevelled, pointed blade, curved guard, rectangular guard and triangular pommel. Sword swords like this one were used throughout the European Middle Ages because they provided tactical flexibility and could be used both for slashing and stabbing attacks, usually in combination in a shield. Excellent condition; on a custom stand.Size: L:555mm / W:80mm ; 635g; Provenance: From the private collection of a Somerset gentleman; previously in an old British collection, formed in the 1980s on the UK /European art markets.
