C. 49-48 BC. Late Roman Republic period. A silver denarius coin of Julius Caesar within a modern handmade circular sterling silver setting made exclusively for Pax Romana Gallery. Obverse: A culullus (horn-shaped drinking vessel), an aspergillum (sprinkler), axe and an apex (ceremonial cap with pointed a wooden crest), which are the trappings of a priest in Roman religion, reflecting Caesar’s status as pontifex maximus. Reverse: an elephant trampling a snake and below it, the legend “CAESAR.” The gorgeous pendant makes a stunning statement piece necklace. Excellent condition; wearable.
