提要：是书为白纸精印本，通篇写刻上板，字形工致，刻印精工，品相较佳。该书是应宝时自撰自刻之本，故刻印都极为用心。其以图文形式详细记述了皇室祭祀时之繁琐程序，是研究中国祭祀礼节的详实资料，内有祀位、制度、陈设、乐谱、舞谱等图附考，刻印精美。应宝时（1821-1890），字敏斋，永康芝英人，道光二十四年中举，因镇压太平军有功，后升江苏按察使兼署布政事，著有《射雕词》二卷传世。前有应氏同治十二年序，言其于同治三年（1864）任苏松太兵备时，上海县学改建完成行襄祀事颇感震撼，遂详稽今制，搜采旧闻。后迁江苏按察使时，与常熟宗廷辅、平湖钱炳奎排比骗帙，绘具图说，名曰《直省释奠书》，厘为六卷，是为此书。
