本品色彩丰富，画工精细，内绘蝴蝶花卉用笔自然，蝴蝶灵动洒脱，外壁素身，简单明了，器型规整，卧足，青花底款。
五彩是在已烧成的白瓷上以低温色料描绘图案纹样，然后经第二次入窑烧成，最主要特点是有绚丽的色彩。关于五彩所用色彩，清《南窑笔记》云:“彩色有矾红，用皂矾炼者，以陈为佳;黄色用石末铅粉，入矾红少许配成;用铅粉、石末入铜花为绿色;铅粉石末入青料则成紫色;翠色则以京翠为上，广翠次之”。这些颜料是含有铁、钻、铜、锰、锑等矿物元素着色剂的低温色料。五彩是将这些颜色巧妙搭配在一起，构成丰富多彩的装饰效果。
