A BRONZE FIGURE OF SHINRAN SHONIN, Japan, signed Hasegawa Hideo Kinsaku, after 1933, standing with prayer beads and a staff - Property from a South German private collection, acquired prior to 1960 - This is a smaller version of the original statue of Shinran Shonin (1173-1263), founder of the Jodo shinshu sect of Buddhism, housed together with seven other statues of famous religious figures in the Hasseiden in Yokohama founded in 1933. Each statue was made by a different artist, among them Asakura Fumio (1883-1964). Hasegawa Hideo was one of Asakura's best pupils.
