Early to late 19th century The first netsuke a monkey carved in ittobori, in two-toned pinewood, signed Sukeyoshi, 3.7cm (1½in) high; the second a toad, carved in the manner of Shigetada, facing ahead, its knobbly body depicted in a distinctive manner, the eyes inlaid, unsigned, 4.2cm (1 5/8in); the miniature inro lacquered in coloured togidashi maki-e on the black ground with a boy dancing on one side and another beating a drum on the other, signed Kofu saku (made by Kofu), 4cm (1 9/16in) high; with a bone and Shibayama inlaid miniature two-part manju netsuke decorated with a sprig of cherry blossom.
