By Masakazu, Gifu, 19th century The monkey seated, vigorously gnawing at a persimmon held at the right side of its mouth with both hands, its feet clutching a leafy stalk with two more fruit, forming a compact composition, one leg forming the himotoshi, the slightly worn wood variously stained for effect, the eyes double inlaid; signed in an oval reserve Masakazu. 3.7cm (1 7/16in).
