the dial signed James Smith, London, circa 1775 the rectangular case (previously ebonised) with ogee bell top with brass carrying handle and acorn finials, the sides with inset glazed panels below circular fretted sound frills, the arched brass dial with 7" Roman chapter ring with outer Arabic track, inner date calendar and engraved centre below a subsidiary strike / silent dial, and with applied foliate spandrels and mounts, the brass four pillar twin fusee movement with engraved backplate and verge escapement striking on bell, with brass bob pendulum and winding key, 51.5cm high approximately
