以铜为材，雄狮虬发长须，怒目圆睁，圆鼻高吻，雕刻十分细腻。狮身呈端坐姿态，上身挺直，后腿蜷坐，身形挺拔，颇见威严之态，整器造型生动精细，将雄狮自然生威的神态表现地淋漓尽致。器物装饰同样古雅精致，狮鬃及首尾毛发皆纤毫毕现，且狮身装饰鎏金火焰纹，在深栗皮色的衬托下颇为醒目，自生文雅气质。中国古代常把狮子视作神兽狻猊，传说狻猊为龙之九子之一，其性喜烟好坐，故常被装饰于香具之上。自宋代起，香熏上即常见狮子形象，明代《宣德彝器图谱》中亦记载了本品造型类似的金狻猊炉，置之于干清宫紫宸殿及其东西暖阁内，可见铜狮素来是受皇家欢迎的吉祥雅物。
