S. studied 195458 history at Princeton but also took painting lessons. He began with intregrating elements of totalitarian iconography to his paintings as well as with irregularly and three-dimensionally shaped paintings. Later he also made sculptures and assemblages. Er wurde bekannt mit Versatzstücken totalitärer Ikonographie sowie unregelmäßig geformten Bildträgern, später schuf er auch Assemblagen und Skulpturen. Unter seinen wichtigen Ausstellungen war die Teilnahme an der Documenta 1968.
