TARA FLANKED BY ADORANTS Stone Tibet , 18th century revival Dimensions: Height 42 cm by 27 cm by 10 cm Weight: 6273 grams Bare-chested Tara sitting on a high throne with lotus flower and beaded rim. One knee is bent to the side, the other foot is supported on a separate lotus flower in the front. In the base of the throne we see three tiny figures, adorants bringing their hands together in front of their chest in a devout position. The Tara is supporting herself with her left hand while the other is forming the gesture of fearlessness. She is wearing a striped, long dhoti and many beaded chains and opulent jewellery. Her head is slightly tilted to the left and the expression is calm and welcoming. Two lotus flowers are growing besides her. Surrounding her head are five depictions of Buddha with different mudras. The back is decorated with an ornamental aureole. The back of the statue is flat and a square hole reveals the Tara's back covered by a thread and decorative waistband.
