The second by Jusensai Nobusada, Edo period (161-51868), 19th century The first decorated in several shades of gold hiramaki-e and takamaki-e against a black-lacquer ground with highlights of hirame, kirikane, and mura-nashiji, with a continuous scene of a pavilion in a landscape by a waterfall, the interior cases nashiji lacquer, fitted with a hardstone bead ojime and a red-lacquer manju netsuke carved with a shishi and peonies highlighted with gold lacquer; the second decorated in gold, silver, red, and black takamaki-e with a pair of cranes in flight among clouds, all against a kinji ground with highlights of kirikane, the interior cases nashiji lacquer, fitted with a metal bead ojime 4in (10.1cm) high, the largest
