A SINO-TIBETAN GILT COPPER ALLOY FIGURE OF AMITAYUS18th/19th century
Displaying typical iconography consisting of a figure seated in dhyanasana posture resting both hands in his lap drilled to hold a now lost kalasa vessel, the elegantly-rendered princely attire still showing some examples of inlaid semi-precious cabochons, all raised upon a double-lotus plinth.
8in (20.3cm) high注脚Amitayus (the Buddha of immeasurable longevity) was a popular figure throughout the Qing dynasty-- the Qianlong emperor notably had a set of tens of thousands of them produced to celebrate his and his mother's birthday celebrations in 1770. The present lot however seems most similar to a copper alloy Amitayus offered as lot 44 in sale 22463 of 14 September 2015, note the similar treatment to the sash across the figure's chest and the elaborate head-gear.
