Wearing a tripartite echeloned wig, secured at the forehead with a wide beaded fillet and striped bands, a beaded broad collar visible between the lappets, the face sensitively modelled with large almond-shaped eyes and extended brows and cosmetic lines, red and yellow pigment preserved overall, 34cm high注脚Provenance:

Mary Duke Biddle Trent Semans was an American philanthropist, leader, activist and patron of the arts. The granddaughter of Benjamin N. Duke, great niece of James B. Duke and great-granddaughter of Washington Duke, tobacco and energy tycoons who founded Duke University, she created and contributed to innumerable charitable organizations, with a special emphasis on the arts, which was a lifelong passion.
