Mixed Lot: Egypt campaign: bronze medal - Admiral Lord Keith and the death of Sir Ralph Abercrombie, 1801 by J G Hancock, obverse with uniformed bust of Lord Keith, reverse depicting a Scottish soldier by a funerary monument to Lord Abercromby (sic), 48mm diam; a bronze medal commemorating the action of Ile de Groix 1795, Admiral Alexander Hood, 1st Viscount Bridport (1727-1814), the obverse depicting the Admiral's bust, in uniform, ribbons over right shoulder, legend "A A Hood, Lord Bridport, Admiral of the White", the reverse depicting Victory with one foot on a point of land, holding a Naval crown and several captured French flags with two squadrons on the horizon, inscribed "Off Port L'Orient & close to the French shore & batteries with 22 ships attacked and defeated, the French fleet of 32 ships. Three ships and 228 guns taken, further dated at base 23. D. June 1795, 48mm diam and a Admiral Collingwood and the Battle of Trafalgar bronze medal 1805, obverse showing a uniformed bust portrait of Lord Collingwood, the reverse with view of the British and French fleets, inscribed above "His Country's Future Hope" and below "Victory October 21 1805", 38mm diam. Info: Collingwood was promoted closely after Lord Nelson and was a firm friend. At Trafalgar he captained The Royal Sovereign and was second in command to Nelson, his ship was the first to break through the enemy lines. His final resting place is alongside Lord Nelson in St Paul's Cathedral (3) Provenance: all purchased from Christopher Eimer 6 March 2001
