Small bronze medal commemorating the return home of Admiral Lord Nelson 1800, obverse features Nelson's bust with pigtail and full uniform, ribbon and Star of Bath and medal around his neck, surrounded by the legend "Admiral Lord Nelson", reverse showing Nelson's ship nearing shore on which Britannia holds out a wreath towards him, legend reads "Hail! virtuous hero, thy victories we acknowledge and they God", further inscribed at base, "Returned to England Nov 5 1800". The medal by T Halliday (see Thomas A Hardy cat no 16). Information: In November 1800, Nelson returned to England owing to ill health, a few days later the new Lord Mayor of London was sworn in and presented Lord Nelson with a sword for his extraordinary services.
