The first Nautilus to incorporate a complication, ref. 3710 marks a turning point in the production of the model. If the Nautilus had undergone variations in size, going from a 42 mm format to a 38 mm mid-size size, it was not until 1998 and ref. 3710 that the Nautilus returned to its original proportions.
THE transitional reference, the Patek Philippe manufacture finally appropriates the Genta masterpiece that has remained intact until now, adding Roman indexes and a date window, which modifies the structure of the dial... Patek Philippe plays with the lines of a design piece, which suddenly becomes more than just a watch, it becomes a real timepiece.
The reference 3710 will be produced only in steel with a black dial.

Comment: Designed by Gerald Genta and launched by Patek Philippe in 1976, the Nautilus is one of the most important watch designs of the 20th century. For the first two decades of its history, the case inspired by this Nautilus sports watch had simple dials with time and date. But all that changed in 1998 when Patek Philippe introduced the Nautilus 3710 / 1A with a power reserve indicator. In addition to the power reserve indicator, the black dial features Roman numeral hour markers and a date window. Patek Philippe discontinued the Nautilus 3710 / 1A in 2005, making this timepiece a rare example of relatively limited production, paving the way for future Nautilus models with various complications until the QP launched in Basel in 2018.
