Benjamin Marshall (Seagrave 1768-1835 London) Sir Charles Bunbury's filly, Eleanor with jockey up oil on canvas 61.5 x 74cm (24 3/16 x 29 1/8in). Footnotes: Provenance Mrs V. M. C. Heyworth, by whose executors offered Sale, Christie's, London, 3 July 1964, lot 67 Eleanor, bred by Charles Bunbury in 1798, out of Young Giantess and sired by Whiskey, is depicted with her principal jockey, John Saunders in Bunbury's famous colours of pink and white stripes. In 1801 she became the first filly to win the Epsom Derby, and also won the Epsom Oaks in that year; a feat that was not repeated for 56 years. She was retired to stud in 1806 and produced more than 10 foals in her lifetime.
