秋興一章。悲鴻,丙子(1936)。

註:一九三六年春夏之交,飽受感情困擾的徐悲鴻,再度南下赴廣西南寧。九月,他隨廣西省府遷居桂林,在給中央大學校長羅家倫請辭的函電中,悲鴻意興闌珊,「弟流年不利,百無一當,思入深山,以藝術自娛,將隱陽朔,謝絕世事」,本幅「秋興一章」或作於此際,除應和秋日感懷寄興,亦貼合蘇軾〈謁金門·秋興〉一闋詞意。東坡〈秋興〉詞乃為酬贈友人而作,寫於宋神宗熙寧六年(1073),東坡時任杭州通守。
詞曰:「秋池閣,風傍曉庭簾幕。霜葉未衰吹未落,半驚鴉喜鵲。自笑浮名情薄,似與世人疏略。一片懶心雙懶腳,好教閒處著。」
悲鴻以近方幅構圖取景,率性點染,寫老樹橫枝,樹皮斑駁,枝頭片片霜葉,枝幹上苔痕綠意猶存,恰乃「霜葉未衰吹未落」意境,而錯落立於枝頭的四隻喜鵲,則呼應「半驚鴉喜鵲」一句。喜鵲,乃中國傳統之吉祥鳥,亦是悲鴻愛寫擅寫之題材。畫家信手拈來,寥寥幾筆,精煉而準確,喜鵲頭、喙、身、尾,墨色乾濕深淺,恰到好處,相得益彰。比照次年為賀「岳軍先生得石濤畢生傑作通景大屏十二幅」寫就的名作《四喜圖》,悲鴻對同一題材的處理、構圖的變化以及筆墨的調度,已臻於出神入化之境了。而「自笑浮名情薄,似與世人疏略」一句,不消說,必定引得畫家無限共鳴。
值得一提的是,《四喜圖》方幅構圖目前為市場僅見,且尺幅遠大於寫贈張群的《四喜圖》條幅;畫上僅具畫名署年,未見上款,應為畫家得意自存之作,若非愛徒四人遠赴英倫,行囊羞澀,悲鴻或許還不肯忍痛割愛!
