A BAROQUE STYLE ANTWERP SCHOOL PAINTING, "Portrait of a Boy," 1630-1680, oil on canvas. 49 3/4" x 36 1/4" Note: The full-length portrait of an auburn hair, brown-eyed child with a right hand on a hat, while standing in contrapposto; he gazes outward towards the viewer. His pale blue doublet is short and fit with domed buttons with red tips and trimmed in ruddy color piping. His shirt unadorned, but full of gathers over festive red, black and yellow colored rhinegraves, traditionally the colors of Belgium. He is fashion-forward wearing fitted breeches with matching blue stockings. Square tipped heeled shoes are decorated with coordinating colorful bows. A profusion of red, black and yellow bows tied throughout are in the French fashion, and he wears a wide leather strap fitted with a gilt hilt court sword. Most likely a young boy of wealth; he is dressed in the most current of Cavalier fashion popular in the 17th Century. Provenance: Property from a Prominent River Oaks Estate Collection, Houston, Texas
