A Yomut Turkoman embroidered silk headdress (chirpy) Central Asia, 19th Century of typical form with false sleeves, the yellow ground embroidered in polychrome with a repeat design of floral motifs, the lapels with geometric motifs, the back with a series of flowerheads surrounding a cruciform motif, the lower edge and sleeves with tassels 133 cm. long Footnotes: Provenance Private North American collection. A chirpy is a robe with false sleeves, worn by women over the head. The yellow colour of the present lot signifies that it would have been worn by a married woman.
