A Hafsid gold dinar from the reign of Abul al-Abbas Ahmad II (AD 1370-1394) Qafsa, Tunisia, 14th Century with central square cartouche filled with inscription in naskhi to both sides, the borders with further inscriptions in naskhi, good extremely fine and rare 30 mm. approx.; 4.77 g. Footnotes: Inscriptions: with the name Abu'l-'Abbas Ahmad, and a form of prayer. The city of Qafsa is an ancient city in modern day Tunisia. Its name is taken from the Latin Capsa referring back to the Mesolithic Capsian culture. Excavations in the region have yielded artefacts back to between 10,000 – 6,000 years BC.
