A Sioux Ledger Drawing Skunk c. 1885 graphite, colored pencil on lined paper The protagonist, a man named Skunk, is riding a mount ornamented with a skunk skin around his neck. He is a warrior of some importance as indicated by his clothing, namely a U. S. Army jacket and an upright feather in his hair. He is in the act of capturing an enemy's horse. Taking this horse is an especially noteworthy coup because its split ears indicate that he has taken its rider into combat.
