TABLE "PSYCHE" MIRROR,
Germany, probably Neuwied ca. 1800.
Rosewood and ebony, with brass fluting and edging. Front with 3 drawers, opening over a spring mechanism. Pivotable mirror.
67 x 35 x 93 cm.
Crack in the leaf. One profiled trim is missing a piece.
Provenance:
- Swiss private collection.
According to a letter from the Stuker Gallery in Berne from 1975, the mirror was sold there, and originally belonged to Prince Wied zu Neuwied. The delicate design somewhat suggests a relationship to the Neuwied-based workshop of Abraham and David Roentgen.
