PAIR OF CARVED AND PAINTED SIDE TABLES WITH CHINESE LACQUER PANELS,
Rococo, Germany ca. 1740/50. The lacquer panels, China, 18th century.
Wood, in part pierced, carved with rocailles and leaves, painted black and parcel-gilt. Rectangular top, depicting fishermen on boats, in Chinese lacquer. Raised edge in European lacquer. Bottom of the frame with inventory stamps: Staatliche Kunstsammlung Schloss Pillnitz 264 and 265, and inventory numbers in black DA.10.22 and 23; inventory numbers in white 49349 and 49350; one table with inventory label Dahlen 23.
86 x 59 x 79 cm.
Top and feet, potentially associated, the black paintwork of the frame, probably later. Losses.

The inventory numbers DA.10.22 and 23 refer to Dahlen Castle which was built by Heinrich von Bünau between 1744 and 1751. Both tables are registered under these numbers in the castle inventory list.
We were not able to establish a direct link between Dahlen Castle and Pillnitz Castle.
