Antonio Prats Ventos (Spanish / Dominican Republic, 1925–1999); 'Meninas Series' part polychrome & polished hard wood sculptural figure of a Girl with a natural slant; carved signature to reverse with polychrome above hard wood block stand. Height with block stand 32 inches (81.4 cm.). NOTE: Born in Spain in 1925, Prats Ventos' family moved to the Dominican Republic in 1940 to escape the Spanish Civil War. His first training in arts took place in the Dominican Republic through his participation in the workshops of the Spanish cabinetmaker Pascual Palacios. In 1942 Prats Ventos studied with José Gausachs and Manuel Pascual in the National School of Fine Arts. He devoted himself mainly to sculpture and is known for using a large variety of woods for his works. Prats Ventos participated in group exhibitions in Cuba, Spain, the United States, France, Brazil and the Dominican Republic and his works are held in many public and private collections. See More
