Measurements: Height: 19.5" Width/Lenght: 1.5" Diameter/Depth: 14.25" Extraordinary Chinese 20th Century Republic Period, rectangle framed porcelain painting plaque. Chinese porcelain paintings of panel framed in vertical rectangular shaped plaques. The panel hand painted two pairs of chickens and their young. The pictures show a rooster and a hen leading their young to feed, the hen pecking at the ground for worms, the young stretching out its wings. The illustration is full of life, below abundant plum tree. The Cock or Rooster, is courageous, has a warlike disposition, and represents the warmth and life of the Universe. Calligraphy Chinese lettering inscriptions poems on the mid right, followed with artist's signature and iron-red seals on each panel. Elegancy come with wide zitan hardwood framed. Zitan is an extremely dense wood which sinks in water. It is a member of the rosewood family and is botanically classified in the Pterocarpus genus. The lumber is blackish-purple in hue, and its fibers are loaded with deep red pigments which have been used for dye throughout the ages. The entirety is encased in amazing relief carving which gives this box a captivating appearance.
