A Chinese stoneware amphora dating from the Tang dynasty, with a stand. The vase features dragon handles, a sculpted neck, figures of children, and medallions at the shoulders. Dimensions are: 15 7/8 inches tall X 7 1/4 inches wide; 40.3 cm tall X 18.4 cm wide. All measurements are approximate. Condition: It is in good condition with some age wear. Provenance: From a collection in Houston, Texas. Collector was an executive at a major oil company and was based in Singapore and Hong Kong from the 1970s to early 1980s. A jar with dragon-headed handles dating from the Tang dynasty can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, accession number 38.56.7 (fig. 1). A similar jar from the early Tang dynasty is in the collection of Freer Gallery of Art, accession number F1943.4. Another such jar can be found in the Palace Museum, Beijing (fig.2).
