R.G. Finney (Wyoming, B. 1941) "Herd / Trail Drive" Signed lower right. Original Acrylic painting on Wood. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting was published on the Fleetwood American West Plate Collection "Driving the Herd" porcelain plate. One of the most dreaded hazards of any cattle drive is an encounter with deep water. Most of the herd will voluntarily plunge into the ford, following the leaders as they wade to dry land. However, water crossings rarely go smoothly. Once in deeper waters, drovers are faced with livestock that panic in this unfamiliar and forbidding environment. Heading off in the wrong direction, spooked cattle create a frenzy that can quickly drown both man and beast. Overall Size: 18 x 18 in. Unframed. (B14666)
