Fine pictorial work in wool and silk with a square picture field. It depicts a solemn table scene in a hall with a royal couple in fine garments enthroned at the end of the table, food is served and a drinking bowl is filled in the foreground. It could be an excerpt from the biblical story of the wedding at Cana, where Jesus changed water into wine. Water bowl, wine jug and drinking vessel in the foreground could be sufficient evidence of this. The episode is framed by an opulent leaf tendril with embedded military motifs, including armour with feathers, cannons, timpani and trumpets. Provenance: German private property. Acquired in Strasbourg in the 1970s in a specialist shop, since then in family ownership in Germany. - senile Rep. Size modified.
