Replicas of the gold cups of Vaphio in 22kt yellow gold. Cup with double walls and bottom, surrounding motifs of a bull hunt. Applied handling. Stamped "22K" and Vourakis on the handles. Original case with court supplier stamp. The cups about 58.25 or 62.6 gr. 1 small dent. Provenance: From a private estate in Hessen. According to available information, the mother of the current owners received the cups as a gift from Shah Reza Pahlavi and his wife Farah Diba on the occasion of the state visit to Frankfurt in 1967, during which the Shah established business contacts with German economic investors. In 1888 during excavations in the Tholos Tomb of Vaphio in Laconia (Peloponnese) two gold cups with animal motifs were discovered. They are dated around 1500 B.C. and are now in the Archaeological Museum of Athens.
