A LATE 17TH / EARLY 18TH CENTURY TURKISH OTTOMAN GILT COPPER (TOMBAK) INCENSE BURNER (BUHURDAN) the ovoid body with a hinged, pierced domed lid above, the lid surmounted by a finial and decorated with alternating panels of pierced stylised foliage with abstract scrolls, over a foliate border and engraved scrolling vines, on a spreading circular foot over a circular tray, the tray engraved with saz leaves and flowerheads, raised on three feet, 22cm high A comparable 17th century gilt copper tombak but with slightly more complex pierced decoration was sold at Christie's, London, 10 October 2013, lot 142A, £37,500.
