CHOLA STYLE BRONZE SCULPTURE OF ARDHANARISHVARA 19TH-EARLY 20TH CENTURY shown dancing on a lotus platform, wearing an elaborate headdress, with the typical half man, half woman form, the right side male wearing shorts above the knee to accentuate the more prominent thigh muscles, holding a southern Shiva axe and with a serpent coiled round the other, the female left side with rounded breast and tightly fitted trousers around the leg which raised up towards the viewer, a sash hangs behind, holding a lotus in one hand and with fingers pointing down to the ground on the other (Dimensions: 57cm high) (Qty: 1) (57cm high) Footnote: Provenance: Private Scottish collection Condition report: Overall in good condition, with a series of antique repairs to the base.
