A FRENCH COMMEMORATIVE CABINET PLATE CELEBRATING THE ARRIVAL OF LORD BYRON IN MESSOLONGHI IN 1823 France, c.1830 Of circular shape, on short circular foot, decorated to the interior with a black transfer print on white ground, depicting Lord Byron on horseback wearing a Greek military uniform accompanied by two other horsemen and surrounded by kneeling figures wearing Greek clothes, the background of the print with classical buildings and ruins, the text 'LORD BYRON A LA TETE D'UN DETACHMENT GREC' in capital letters below, the sloping rim decorated with alternate prints of garlands enclosing the words 'MIAULIS BYRON' and 'CANARIS FABVIER' and alternate prints of two-barred crosses accompanied by cartouches bearing the words 'LIBERTE' and 'LA CROIX', the exterior white with the impressed maker's mark 'LL MON', 21.5cm diam.
