A GEORGE IV SCOTTISH FLAME MAHOGANY LONG CASE CLOCK, BY THOMAS BEGGS, GLASGOW, CIRCA 1822, the square form removable bonnet with a pyramidal stepped rectangular cornice above a fluted frieze and glass paneled circular hinged door, opening to a white painted dial with black Roman chapters and blued cut steel hands over twin key escapements, signed "THOS BEGGS GLASGOW," reversing to white inscribed "T.BEGGS" and brass clock mechanism, above a long case with canted corners and centering a paneled door opening to a long brass stemmed and floral painted tôle disc pendulum, raised on a paneled block form base and stepped plinth. Height: 80" Width: 17 3/4" Depth: 9 3/4" Note: Thomas Beggs is recorded to have been working in Glasgow, Scotland on 145 Trongate from 1822-1841.
