LEROY NEIMAN (American 1921-2012) A BRONZE SCULPTURE, "Harlequin,"1983, cold painted bronze with gold patina on marble base, signed, dated, and numbered "14/35" with Joel Meisner & Co. foundry mark. Note: While best known as a painter, Leroy Neiman produced a few bronzes in the 1980s. Harlequin of 1983 is a rare edition of only 35 with 9 additional artist proofs - each uniquely painted with colorful highlights of the costume. The sculpture carries the imagery of the harlequins and jesters seen in Neiman's paintings and prints from the period with direct relation to his 1983 serigraph entitled "Harlequin Bergamo." Purportedly, the model of the body of the figure is that of Rudolf Nureyev and the face is that of Sammy David Jr. Provenance: Property from the Collection of Michael Anzilotti, Houston, Texas.
