A RUSSIAN SILVER OKLAD MOUNTED ICON OF CHRIST BLESSING THE LOAVES , MARKED, MOSCOW, 1859, painted in tempura colors on wood and partially covered in an elaborate repoussé silver gilt oklad, decorated with two small oval porcelain plaques initialed "JC," centering Christ gazing heavenwards enveloped by a radiating halo and wearing nicely detailed robes with right hand raised in a blessing while left holds a loaf of bread, over an altar set with a covered chalice and paten framed by scrolling leafy vines, halo stamped with assayer initials I.A. (Ivan Avdeyev 1852-1862) dated 1859, silver purity 84, Moscow mark St. George slaying dragon, silversmith initials IB Ivan Vagonov, set within a shadowbox. Height: 8" Width: 6"
