A CHINESE RED LACQUERED FOUR PANEL JADE & HARDSTONE MOUNTED HARDWOOD SCREEN, POSSIBLY REPUBLIC PERIOD (1912-1949), the four dark red lacquered and carved panels compose mythical scenes of birds flying above large blossoming lotus on gold painted long stems in a marsh setting and paired cranes perched on the branches of an ancient pine above a cliff side landscape, each scene mounted with carved figural plaques of the immortal He-He ErXian twins, Shou Lao and other long robed immortals, amidst auspicious blossoming foliage sprouting from rocky outcroppings before distant mountainous landscapes, set within top relief carved panels of revered flowering iris, lotus, pomegranate or carnation stems, over base panels centering circular reserves with mythological long robed figures at various pursuits and settings, cornered by spandrels of scrolling tendril vine with chilong masks, set within carved hardwood frames enclosing gold painted clusters of stylized fretwork, each height: 7' 1 3/4", width: 23 3/4".
