A TIBETAN WHITE TARA "USHNISHAVIJAYA" THANGKA, 18TH/19TH CENTURY, gouache and gilt on linen mounted with a silk patchwork border, the three faced goddess crowned with an eight headed crown, eight arms hold a blooming flower stem, a bow, and an ewer opposed by a pearl necklace, a mirror, and offering an open palm; at her feet are four green taras with prayerful petitioners one with dark bun hair walking in a river, at center two red haired figures at a mountain vase, and at left a kneeling figure with mustache and pointed woven hat, surmounted by a central primordial Vairocana seated figure; the goddess is flanked by two standing yellow and blue taras, the goddess rises from gilt scroll and pink hued banded mandorla flanked by auspicious flower blooms, emerging from teaming, peaceful streams; the heavens filled with four green taras accompanied by a snake, an asian elephant and a rat respectively, centering a white and red celestial figure appearing in the sky, the whole flanked by repoussé finials, retaining dyed flower silk cover, verso two rubber stamps. 27 1/2" x 18 1/2"
