Huang Zhou or Chou Chinese, 20th century, male. Born 1925, in Hebei Province; died 1997. Painter. Figure compositions, landscapes with figures, animals. Huang Zhou taught drawing at a primary school in 1939 but resigned so he could study painting at Xian. He studied under the landscape painter Zhao Wangyun whom he accompanied on various trips, notably to Gansu and Xinjiang in 1947. In 1949 he joined the revolutionary army and was assigned to reorganizing artistic life in Langzhou and the north-east of the country.
