Drypoint on laid paper, a very good Meder A impression of this rare print; with various pencil inscriptions verso (unknown collector, not in Lugt) Image size: 4 1/2 x 2 7/8 in. (11.4 x 7.3cm) Sheet size: 5 1/8 x 3 7/16 in. (13 x 8.7cm) [Bartsch 21; Meder 21] PROVENANCE: Private Collection, Oklahoma. NOTE: According to Erwin Panofsky this is Dürer's earliest drypoint. It is also the only one of Dürer's three drypoints with a date and monogrammed signature. A related drawing by Dürer, Man of Sorrows, is in the collection of The Louvre, Paris (W. 606).
